Parent Choice in Health Education

Health classes in the Johnston Community Schools provide students in kindergarten through 12th grade valuable information about health topics.

As in the past, all health materials are available for parent review upon request. Please ask your child’s teacher if you have any questions. Parent communication will be sent home to promote awareness and your participation in discussions at home with your child about health topics. Parents have the option of having their child excused from instruction on a specific health topic, if they choose. Any such request must be in written form and filed with the school principal. In addition, a student may not be required to enroll in health or physical education classes if the child’s parent or guardian files a written statement with the principal that the course conflicts with the child’s religious beliefs pursuant to Iowa Code Section 256.11 (6).

Specific questions in regard to Johnston’s health curriculum can be directed to the school principal.
