2017-18 Kindergarten Registration Opens January 3

For little ones – and their parents – the first day of kindergarten or developmental kindergarten marks the beginning of a new, exciting chapter in their lives. AndYoung female students stands next to a Dragon sculptur eon her first day of kindergarten. while the 2017-18 school year doesn’t start until August, parents are encouraged to register their kindergarten-eligible child in January using the district’s new online registration system.

Starting January 3, the online registration portal will be open at https://www.johnstoncsd.org/district/school-registration/. In addition to the online system, parents/guardians can attend a help session at one of the district’s elementary schools if they need access to a computer and/or assistance with the process. These help sessions are for parents only. Parents are welcome to attend any of the help sessions listed below:

  • Beaver Creek Elementary – January 5 – 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
  • Horizon Elementary – January 9 – 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
  • Lawson Elementary – January 10 – 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
  • Timber Ridge Elementary – January 12 – 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
  • Wallace Elementary – January 12 – 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Finding Your School

Before registering, parents should take a moment to view the district boundary maps online at www.johnstoncsd.org/district/maps-boundaries/ to learn what elementary school their child will attend. Families outside the district boundaries wishing to attend Johnston must apply for open enrollment before September 1, 2017.

Documents needed to complete the registration process

The documents listed below can be uploaded into the online registration or can be dropped off at any of the elementary buildings during the hours of 7:45 a.m.  to 4:15 p.m.

  • Proof of residency. All new students entering the district must provide the proper documentation to establish residency in order to enroll. All documents provided must state the student’s physical address, and residency at that address is required. A post office box is NOT an acceptable address for the purpose of determining residency. Examples of acceptable paperwork: most recent mortgage statement, most recent lease agreement, most recent utility bill, etc.
  • Proof of age. Children who are five (5) years old by September 15, 2017 are eligible for kindergarten in the 2017-18 school year. Several options are acceptable – these can be original or copies: hospital birth certificate; passport; adoption papers; county certificate; or state certificate.
  • Certificate of Immunization. Your child’s physician can provide you with a copy of all immunizations given. A photo copy of the certificate of immunization is acceptable.
  • Vision Form. This can be completed by your child’s physician. It is due at the start of the school year.
  • Dental Form. This can be completed by your child’s dentist. It is due at the start of the school year.
  • Physical Exam. This can be completed by your child’s physician. It is due at the start of the school year.

Online re-enrollment for existing JCSD students will take place in the spring; watch the district website and your email for details.
