JHS Students Participate in Nat’l Math Comp

(submitted by Julie Probst, JHS Math)

Each year, thousands of students across the nation apply their problem-solving skills in the annual Mathematical Association of America’s American Mathematics Competitions (MAA AMC) 10/12 for high school students.

The AMC program is dedicated to developing the next generation of problem solvers through friendly competition. This year, 47 students from Johnston High School took the AMC 10/12, on February 7.  Congratulations to our top three places for the AMC 10: Chris Yao (school winner), Veronika Silken, and Kiernan Adair.  The top three places for the AMC 12 were Nicholas Dahlen (school winner), Hannah DeBruin, and Cameron Randall.  Chris Yao also received a Certificate of Distinction and qualified for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination. Congratulations!
