Welcome to Horizon Elementary!

Horizon proudly serves approximately 670 kindergarten through fifth grade students.

Horizon was built in 2001 and was the fourth elementary school in Johnston. The school building is also a source of pride for the Horizon community. It has amazing space available for students, including computer labs, two art studios, music rooms, a full sized gymnasium, and a lunchroom.  4th and 5th grade classrooms are 1:1 with iPads, and our K-3 classrooms are 2:1.

Lindsey Cornwell is the principal at Horizon. She, along with a dedicated staff, are committed to students and work hard to ensure every student makes growth during the school year. There are 27 kindergarten through fifth grade homerooms at Horizon, where students spend their days reading, writing, creating, thinking, collaborating, problem-solving and experimenting.

Every student at Horizon goes to PE, art, music and library classes every week. In addition, students work with the guidance counselor on a frequent basis.  The Extended Learning Program (ELP) serves our students requiring academic enrichment. There are reading support personnel to assist our students with reading/literacy skills, and four different special education programs are available for students who present unique learning needs.

We welcome you to visit our school! All visitors to the building will be directed to the front office to gain access to the rest of the school. Please call our office (515-986-1121) to arrange a visit.
