Keeping the Community Informed

Per guidance from the Iowa Department of Public Health, Johnston Schools will treat COVID-19 similar to influenza and other common child illnesses. Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 should quarantine for 10 days. Those who believe they have been exposed to COVID-19 in or outside of school should monitor for symptoms and seek a COVID-19 test, but are not required to quarantine.

Due to health department changes in quarantine requirements, JCSD will not contact trace to identify individuals as “close contacts” who may have been exposed to COVID-19 in the school setting. However, elementary schools will send grade-level notifications to families to indicate possible close contact when there is a positive case in the classroom.

This dashboard has been created to provide parents with “at-a-glance” positive case information, based on reports from Polk Co. Health Department. It is updated twice a week and date stamped at the bottom of all tables. An asterisk (*) denotes fewer than six (6) cases at a grade level or building and is not disclosed based on the premise of privacy.

For complete information on our 2021-22 Health & Safety mitigation strategies, please review our board-approved handbook. This handbook is subject to change as health conditions fluctuate in our community, county, and state.
