Tuesday, March 5th, 2019–A Day!
New Announcements:
Attention female students! The free and fun Iowa State University Sonya Kovalevsky Girls Mathematics Day will be held:
Saturday, March 30
9:00 am – 2:00 pm
Carver Hall
Iowa State University Campus
Ames, Iowa
The theme for the day will be: Some Mathematical Aspects of Paper Folding and Origami.
Events will include a keynote speaker, hands-on activities, lunch (provided), and small group mentoring sessions with female mathematicians.

8th Grade Girls track will have an informational meeting this Thursday at 3:00 pm in the small gym OR Friday morning at 7:30 am in the small gym. Practice will start on Monday, March 11 after school. There will be a parent meeting on Tuesday, March 12th after practice at 4:45 pm in the lunch room. If you did not sign up during the other pre-season meeting you can still attend and sign up for track.
8th Grade Boys track will have an information meeting this Thursday, March 7 at 3:15 in the auditorium until 4:00. Practice will start on Monday, March 11 after school. There will be a parent meeting on Tuesday, March 12 after practice at 5:00-6:00 pm in the JMS auditorium. All participants must get signed up online at https://johnstoncsd-ar.rschooltoday.com/ prior to the first practice. The head coach will be Ken Nead and his email is ken.nead@johnston.k12.ia.us.
Friends of Johnston ELP will be hosting National Speaker Lisa Van Gemert on Tuesday, April 9th, at 7pm at Johnston Middle School Auditorium. You won’t want to miss this unique opportunity to hear from the “GIFTED GURU”, Lisa Van Gemert. Lisa is a national speaker and author of the book, Perfectionism: Practical Strategies for Managing Never Good Enough. She will be discussing boundaries for the gifted to include peer boundaries, adult interaction and even electronics. As always, this is a free event and open to the public. REMINDER!!
SCHOOL PERMIT MEETING: Attention 9th Grade Students! Our next School Permit Meeting will be Tuesday, March 5 at 3:15 PM in the Cafeteria of Johnston Middle School (enter through front entrance). The ONLY students eligible are 9th grade students who HAVE HAD THEIR LEARNERS’ PERMIT FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS AND HAVE COMPLETED DRIVER’S ED. THE STUDENT AND A PARENT MUST ATTEND THE MEETING! Please bring your completed Driver’s Education Certificate (if you have a paper copy – they are going electronic) and learner’s permit to the meeting. Parking Tags will be available for $20 during the meeting. Students will need a parking tag to park on school grounds during the school year. Please make sure you have your license plate number with you at the time of purchase. If you have NOT completed Driver’s Ed by the meeting date, we will have another meeting next month. Be watching your announcements for the date and time!

Johnston High School is having an international night after spring break celebrating all cultures. If you are interested in helping out please see below and stay tuned for the date to be announced!
Johnston Middle School Parent Teacher Conferences will also be held the evening of Thursday, March 7, 4:30-8:00 PM. Teachers will once again be located in the Small Gym, Band Room or Library and can meet with parent as they come available. Parents, please plan to check in in the Commons area when you arrive. Building maps and teacher locations will be provided at that time.
