Welcome to Lawson Elementary!
Lawson proudly serves 720 preschool through fifth grade students enrolled in our school.
Lawson was built in 1958 and was the first elementary school in Johnston. There are still areas of the original building, located in the north wing of the school. Since 1958, Lawson has added on to accommodate more students and updated learning spaces.
Thomas Bartello is the principal at Lawson. He, along with 62 teachers and staff members, are committed to students and work hard to ensure every student makes growth during the school year. There are 27 preschool through fifth grade homerooms at Lawson. The school has a full time guidance counselor, a full time teacher librarian, and a full time nurse.
Every student at Lawson goes to PE, Art, and Music classes every week. The Extended Learning Program (ELP) serves our students requiring academic enrichment. There are reading support personnel to assist our students with reading/literacy skills, and four different special education programs are available for students who present unique learning needs.
We welcome you to visit our school! All visitors to the building will be directed to the front office to gain access to the rest of the school. Please call our office (515-278-0478) to arrange a visit.
