Welcome to Lawson Elementary!

Lawson proudly serves more than 600 developmental kindergarten through fifth grade students enrolled in our school.

Lawson was built in 1958 and was the first elementary school in Johnston. There are still areas of the original building, located in the north wing of the school. Since 1958, Lawson has added on to accommodate more students and updated learning spaces.

Nikki Heidemann is the principal at Lawson. She, along with 86 teachers and staff members, are committed to students and work hard to ensure every student makes growth during the school year. There are 27 developmental kindergarten through fifth grade homerooms at Lawson. The school has a full time guidance counselor, teacher librarian, and nurse.

Students at Lawson go to various related arts classes: PE, Art, Music, Guidance/SEL, and Library/Media. Related Arts classes operate on a six day cycle rotation. The Extended Learning Program (ELP) serves our students requiring academic enrichment. There are reading support personnel to assist our students with reading/literacy skills, and several different special education programs are available for students who present unique learning needs.
