Lawson Elementary: PBIS & Leader in Me Framework

Screenshot 2025 07 28 at 10.28.48 AMLawson uses Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), a research-based framework designed to promote positive behavior, reduce disruptions, and support all learners. At Lawson, our school-wide expectations are: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. These foundational behaviors create a consistent and supportive environment where all students can grow and succeed.

In conjunction with PBIS, Lawson also implements Leader in Me, a whole-school transformation model based on the 8 Habits of Highly Effective People. We believe leadership begins with practicing core behavioral expectations. As students demonstrate respectful, responsible, and safe choices, they are also applying the 8 Habits—building independence, confidence, and a strong sense of character.

Minor/Major Behavior Infractions:

To support consistent responses to behavior, we’ve developed a behavior matrix that outlines what may constitute a minor or major infraction. This tool is used by staff to guide how to respond, reteach, and support students effectively when incidents occur. The goal is to intervene proactively, reinforce expectations, and help students return to learning with the skills they need to be successful.

Positive Acknowledgments:

Recognizing and celebrating positive behavior is an important part of our culture. Student can earn Lawson Leader Tickets when they show leadership by demonstrating the 8 Habits or modeling respectful, responsible, and safe behavior. These acknowledgments help reinforce our shared values and encourage students to consistently bring their best selves to school.

At Lawson Elementary, students and adults work together to help everyone do their personal best. With shared expectations, meaningful recognition, and a focus on leadership, we are committed to helping every student feel empowered, valued, and supported.
