Johnston Youth Basketball League

• WHAT: This is a recreational basketball league that emphasizes equal participation, skill development, and fun!
• WHO: For Grades K-7 with boys and girls divisions (see below for more information)
  

• WHEN:  Coaches Meeting-  Date is Sunday, November 5, 2023 at the District Office Gym- Grades K-1 at 5:30pm, Grades 2-3 Coaches at 6:30pm. Grades 4-7 Coaches at 7:30pm. 
  Practices– First day of practice is Saturday, November 11, 2023 for Grades K-7.
  -Grades 2-7: Practice times during the week are determined at the Coaches’ Meeting for Grades 2-7 only.  Teams practice for one hour on either Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays (if needed) at 6:15, 7:15, or 8:15pm. No practices the week of Thanksgiving or during Holiday Break.
  -Grades K-1: Practice and play games on Saturdays only. Schedules will include 2 games at the end of the session.
  Games–
  -Grades 2-7- Saturdays, December 2 – February 3 (no games during Holiday Break) at various Johnston Elementary Schools from 9am-3pm depending on # of teams registered.
  -Please be respectful and show good sportsmanship during these games. Snacks/treats/drinks after the game should be handed out in the hallways instead of on the court.
• NEEDED: Parent volunteers are needed to coach! Indicate during registration or email Brett at brettbarber@johnston.k12.ia.us.  Co-coaches are encouraged! No more than 2 are allowed.
  NEEDED: High school students who can volunteer to keep score, operate the scoreboard, or be an assistant coach for games. Click here to sign up online!
• COST: Grades K-1: $55 per player, Grades 2-7: $90 per player. Early Bird Registration Deadline is October 10, Price increases to $110 after that date for Grades 2-7. Final Deadline is November 1 at 12pm.
• EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
  -Jerseys- $15 if you don’t have one from last year.  Click here to pay for one. These reversible purple/white jerseys can be used year after year or you can purchase a new one each year.
  -Basketballs- Grades K-3 play with a 27.5 sized basketball, Grades 4-7 play with 28.5 sized basketballs. Please bring your own basketball and clearly mark with your name during practices/games.
• WEATHER HOTLINE: 515-252-8488- Please also check your email/phone for messages if we know ahead of time.
  -If JCSD school is canceled or has an early out due to bad weather, all JCE programs are canceled after school and in the evening.
  -If JCE determines that weather is too detrimental to holding the program/event – the class will be postponed, canceled or rescheduled.
