Family Information: I’m married to Tiffany Allen and we have two children. Our son is a Johnston graduate and freshman at the University of Iowa and our daughter is a sophomore at JHS.
How long have you lived in the Johnston Community School District? I was born in Johnston and attended JCSD from K-12. After college and law school, my wife and I moved back to Johnston in 2006.
Please share your school or district involvement, such as committees, PTO, etc. I was elected to the Johnston School Board in 2017, and became Board President in 2019. I have also served as a Johnston Community School Foundation Board Member from 2013-2015. I have been a district and community volunteer as a Mock Trial coach, alumni panelist, coach for youth football, baseball, and soccer, various school events and activities from 2006 to present.
Why are you interested in running for the Johnston School Board? I am running for reelection to the Johnston School Board because we have work to finish. In the first two years of my term, the board set ambitious goals to address equity, student growth, and community engagement. We saw progress in executing our strategic plan before the pandemic interrupted everything. I’m running because the board needs experienced and stable leadership to see the district through the pandemic and to get back to work providing our students, staff, and community the school district they deserve and expect.

Family Information: I have been married to Greg Davis for 30 years and have two sons who both attended Johnston schools, K-12. Jake graduated in 2012, and Luke graduated in 2015. My children graduated from Johnston schools well prepared for their next phases of life. Their time in the district has made me familiar with the schools and the concerns of the parents. As a school board member, I will bring an unbiased perspective and a listening ear for all district parents and grade levels.
How long have you lived in the Johnston Community School District? We have lived in Johnston for 25 years.
Please share your school or district involvement, such as committees, PTO, etc. I have been volunteering to bring positive change throughout the Johnston community, Polk County, and the state of Iowa for a number of years. While my children were in the Johnston School District, I was a Cub Scout leader, an Awana leader, a weekly volunteer in my sons’ elementary classrooms, and I organized and served the High School teacher meals during Parent-Teacher Conferences each semester. I also founded the prayer group PURPOSE to pray for the students & staff in the Johnston schools. Outside of the school district, I have been a women’s bible study facilitator, a counselor at the Polk County Jail, a volunteer for the Polk County Critical Incident Stress Management team, and the administrator for Pray Iowa.
Why are you interested in running for the Johnston School Board? I am running to be a voice for parents who feel their voices are not being heard by the current School Board. I will listen to the concerns of the parents, I will advocate for parents, and I will advocate for their children. My faith has compelled me to leave a legacy for our future. I am running for our children, for our children’s children, and for all future generations to come. I am running to spread a message of hope, not division and confusion. I passionately believe that together we can leave a school system that is thriving and healthy. A school system that is full of opportunities that allow future generations to flourish and be empowered to reach the full and unique potential of who they were created to be!

Family Information: My wife Lori and I have raised three kids in the Johnston School District. Lexi (2008 graduate), Addelyn (2014 graduate) and our son Hank who passed away in 2014. He would have been a 2016 graduate.
How long have you lived in the Johnston Community School District? Our family has lived in the district since 1998.
Please share your school or district involvement, such as committees, PTO, etc. Since moving to the district I have been involved with students and their families through coaching youth activities including little league, soccer, and football, as well as FCA and youth ministry, both organized and in our home. I helped coordinate Overtime at Johnston EFree (now Northpoint) for several years, which provides a safe alternative for students after Johnston home football games.
Why are you interested in running for the Johnston School Board? Like so many of you, we moved to the community because of the educational opportunities that Johnston Schools could provide our children. The cornerstone of a strong community is a strong school and we experienced all we could hope for raising our kids in the district. During the past few years I have become concerned as our neighbors and friends with students in the district have shared they are not having the same experience that we had, both in terms of the high educational expectations and the overall culture of learning and interactions they were experiencing. It’s time we get back to the basics in education and train our kids how to think, not just what to think. We must equip them with the education and skills required to succeed in the post-graduate path they choose. There is much to celebrate in our community, we are safe and well-funded. There is also much at risk if we fail to stay engaged in their education and set our students on path for personal success, as well as being our future leaders. I am committed to returning a voice to the parents in the district and providing them the information they need to make choices for their family regarding education and safety.

Family Information: My husband and I have three children, Joe (12th grade), Josh (10th grade), and Elsa (8th grade).
How long have you lived in the Johnston Community School District? We have lived in Johnston since 2002.
Please share your school or district involvement, such as committees, PTO, etc. I have been involved in the school district starting with classroom support and help for parties and field trips since 2010 Wallace Kindergarten room. I was a classroom parent support at Beaver Creek for two children as well. I  have served on the Johnston School Board since 2017.  I am on the School Board Wellness Committee, in which I took it upon myself to measure and map out walking paths for teachers and staff in each building across the district.  I also participate in Johnston Legislative Action Committee (JLAC), Policy Committee, and Facilities committee.  I was a part of the team that created the current JCSD Strategic Plan.   I am active in the Boys Cross Country parent group and served as a chaperone for the 2021 Boys XC Colorado training trip.  I participate and support my children and their teams in the following activities: Boys Cross Country, Football, Baseball, JV Dance, Boys Track and Show Choir Crew.
Why are you interested in running for the Johnston School Board? I am interested in continuing to serve our community and create an environment for the community to heal after the divisiveness we have experienced during the pandemic.  Education serves our children and community in many ways.  Johnston Community School District not only provides academics but the supports that help students and families be successful.  I have a unique combination of skill sets that I believe serves the Johnston school district well.  I hold a PhD in Education, work in Higher Education and am a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW).  My experiences and skill set allows for a greater understanding of the complexity that exists within our educational system and the families we serve.  I care about our community and with three active children in the school district, I am accessible and have first hand experiences to bring to the board table.  My social work and policy background allows for me to look at the policies and practices of our district through an equity lens.  I love Johnston and want to see us thrive as a community and school district.

Children are the key to our future, and their success is very important to me. Service to community has been a guiding principal for my life since I was a young child. Every child deserves the opportunity of having a free, quality public school education.
A quality education includes the following:
1. Equal access to advanced curriculum opportunities starting with Early Learning Pre-K
2. Inexpensive extra curricular activities beginning in elementary school
3. Innovative teaching methods that can accommodate a wide spectrum of students
4. Parental and Family Involvement

Family Information: My wife, Yasmin, and I have one daugher, Nayeli who is in the 4th grade.
How long have you lived in the Johnston Community School District? 5 years
Please share your school or district involvement, such as committees, PTO, etc. (none mentioned)
Why are you interested in running for the Johnston School Board? My family moved to the Johnston school district five years ago in order to ensure our daughter had the best public education we could provide. It was the sole driving force for our choosing our new home. My motivation to run is built on maintaining and building on the foundation of public education that originally brought us here.

Johnston has room to build on its offerings to students who excel academically as I am hearing parents say their children are not often challenged at school. The district can also build on what it provides to those who want to pursue the trades after graduation. A great example of the district moving in this direction is their new business outreach initiative. We have a wealth of industry leader knowledge just within our district. Establishing these school/business relationships and incorporating their input on academic offerings is a win/win. I would love to see us build on that in differing fields of study.

I am also running to be a better voice for the parents and teachers. There is a growing feeling among parents and teachers within the district that they are having minimal influence on district decisions. Whether it is masks, curriculum the parents don’t think are appropriate in the school, or teachers wanting more input on the methods and structure of their classrooms – people are feeling ignored and minimized.

We have a foundation of solid financials and engaged parents and teachers. With better communication, transparency, and focus I look forward to seeing where we can go from here.

Why are you interested in running for the Johnston School Board? I am interested in engaging our students because they are who we ultimately serve. Overall, I want the focus to be primarily on the student.
