As of April 20, 2020, the Johnston Community School District officially moved to an online, voluntary Continuous Learning Plan that meets requirements from the Iowa Department of Education while also taking into account the delicate balance between home life and work expectations for parents and students. While participation is voluntary, it is highly encouraged that all students participate as much as they can.
Our online Continuous Learning Plan is designed to increase student engagement for all learners PK4 – 12 and will provide new learning experiences to students and offer multiple opportunities for students and teachers to engage with one another through learning and social/emotional connections. Please take a few minutes to review our complete Continuous Learning Plan for the roles parents, students, and teachers will play in the success of this program. The CLP was approved by the Board of Education in April.
We are being as flexible as possible (for both students and educators) in our approach to continuous learning. Building principals and instructional coaches have been working very hard to create plans that accommodate this unconventional time in people’s lives. The time missed and out of school due to COVID-19 closures have been waived by the Governor.
Grading and Report Card Changes
As we consider the academic outcomes for our students, we are working diligently to provide the best at-home learning opportunities for students while limiting harmful long-term educational impacts from this unprecedented situation. We have new grading information to share for our students in grades PreK-12.
