Excused absence and attendance information for Thursday’s state basketball game

Following an exciting win over Waukee on Monday, the Johnston girls basketball team now moves to state semifinals on Thursday, March 1. The Dragons take on Iowa City High at 10 a.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. Tickets for the 5A game are sold online via HyVee Tix. Click here to view the new security measures now in place at Wells Fargo Arena for all spectators.

Our community, including parents and students, are encouraged to cheer on and support our basketball players during the second round of the 2018 Girls State Basketball Tournament.

All students (in all grades) who wish to attend the game will be excused from classes 8:35 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. If parents wish to excuse their student, please email your school’s secretary or send a note with your student to the attendance office on Thursday morning. Please include the day and time frame of the absence.

Thursday, March 1 is also a three-hour early out for all schools in the district due to Parent-Teacher Conferences that night (all grades, 1:30-5 and 5:30-8 p.m.). Kids who have excused absences and/or parents check them out will not be expected to come back to school after the game due to the early dismissal.

As a reminder, with the early dismissal, secondaries are done at 11:45 a.m. and elementaries finish the day at 12:35 p.m. Go Dragons!
