Well Done, Dragons!

Congratulations to all of our students in Dragon Nation on jobs well done over the weekend! JHS Math Club

JHS Speech and Debate

It was another great weekend for the JHS Speech and Debate team! Prakhyath and Jack are the Iowa forensics League State Public Forum champions; Nika is the State Champion in International Extemp and also placed second in Spontaneous Speaking; and Sierra also placed third in Program Oral Interpretation.

A Perfect ACT Score

Johnston High School junior Letian (Paul) Zhang has earned a composite score of 36 on the ACT, the highest score possible on the college-prep exam. The composite score is the “overall” average of a student’s multiple choice subject test scores. The ACT scores college readiness in the areas of math, science, English, reading, and an optional writing test. Congratulations, Paul!

Academic Decathlon Takes 3rd At State

Twelve Johnston students and three volunteers traveled to Fort Dodge on  March 2-3 to compete in the 31st annual State Academic Decathlon competition.  They returned with 18 individual honors ,scoring 37,084 points over 10 events, the highest total to date. The team placed less than 400 points behind the second-place team.

Students completed seven multiple choice exams over African history, science, art, music, literature,  and economics, an exam covering mathematics, an essay, a speech and an interview. Team members took home a total of 16 individual medals, earned the third place Overall Honors award, second place Honors and third place Varsity alternate awards.

Congratulations to all the students who played at the Regional and State levels for a great year!

Basketball Honors

Congratulations to sophomore Maya McDermott and senior Camden Vander Zwaag on earning spots on the Des Moines Register’s All-CIML elite teams! Another round of applause for JHS senior Jennah Johnson, who was named to the Class 5A All-Tournament team and earned Academic All-State honors!
