Johnston Teachers Nominated, Honored by Peers

Each year, employees are encouraged to nominate their colleagues for exemplary teaching and learning, stemming from the Portrait of a Learner model. For the 2017-18 school year, three PoL awards were offered – Student Learning & Well-being, Critical Thinking, and Community & Global Mindedness – along with an “Above and Beyond” award for non-certified staff. These awards are designed to recognize those who embody the characteristics of of the Portrait of Learner model and the specific focus areas within it.

This year, 60 nominations from the four categories were submitted to review by the district’s Cabinet team. The winners were honored at the May 9 Johnston Chamber Educator Appreciation reception, held at the Camp Dodge Freedom Center. This annual event serves to celebrate all Johnston staff for their hard work throughout the year, complete with food, prizes, and recognition.

This year’s award winners were: Kara Paulson (Wallace) for Student Learning & Well-being; RaeAnn Skeers (JMS) for Critical Thinking; Nichole Pelton for Community & Global Mindedness (SMS); and Virginia Bryant (Beaver Creek) for the Above & Beyond award. Congratulations!
