A Message to Our Community

June 02, 2020

To our Johnston Community,

There are times when words are hard to find. The circumstances surrounding George Floyd’s death, as well as the injustices served to many people of color in our nation, have left me searching for the best ways to share my deep sense of grief and heartache.

As the district Superintendent, my priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. When events rock our world, we must address it. Our children are watching, listening, and learning. They look to us for how to respond during times of crisis.

I am committed to breaking down inequities and systems of oppression. The experiences of our children, especially those of color, must reflect the better world they deserve to live in. Our new strategic plan focuses on equity and this will be forefront as we move forward. While I don’t have all the answers, I am listening and learning. I need your help, Johnston community, to fix what is broken.

As we look toward a better tomorrow, we all must find the courage to advocate for humankind. See them. Hear them. Stand with them.

Sincerely,

Ms. Laura Kacer
