Non-Contact Week: July 24-31

Then next week is a week off. The Johnston Community School District will participate in the state of Iowa’s official break from school sports and activities.

The 2022 summer non-contact period or “family week” will be held from Sunday, July 24 through Sunday, July 31. During this time, there will be no sports or activities in the Johnston Community School District. This includes practices, camps, clinics, workouts, strength and conditioning, lessons and meetings.

The week aims to provide students an opportunity to prioritize families, friends, rest and activities away from sports. It prohibits any Iowa high school coach or teacher from contacting student-athletes during this time. All high school students, including incoming ninth graders, are covered by this non-contact period.

The non-contact period or “family week” was established in the 2020-21 school year  by the Unified Iowa High School Activities Federation, which includes the Iowa High School Athletic Association, Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, Iowa High School Music Association and Iowa High School Speech Association.
