JHS Academic Decathlon wins regional championship

JOHNSTON, Ia. (Jan. 29, 2023) — Seventeen Johnston students who participated in Academic Decathlon emerged with 42 individual ribbons, six of the overall medals and the regional championship.

Academic Decathlon is a contest requiring each student to give a speech, be interviewed and take tests in math, science, history, economics, music history, literature and art history. This year’s theme was the American Revolution.Testing above

The Johnston team is coached by JHS teacher Sue Cline who co-hosted the regional tournament, held Jan. 26 and 27 at Johnston High School and Central Campus in downtown Des Moines. The state competition will be March 3 and 4 in Urbandale.  State competition team members are marked with an asterisk (*) below.

This team won the regional championship with a total score of 26,474.1 points.
