JOHNSTON, Ia. (June 10, 2025) — Dr. Stephanie Ingle has been selected as principal of Lawson Elementary for the 2025-2026 school year, following board approval Monday night.
She will replace Nikki Heidemann, who is leaving the district at the end of the 2024-25 school year. Ingle will start her new role July 1.
Ingle has worked in the Johnston Community School District since 2023. She is currently the assistant principal of Lawson Elementary, where she has been for the last two years serving students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Ingle previously worked in the Southeast Polk school district for two years, as a School Administration Manager and third grade teacher at Clay Elementary. Prior to that, she worked in the Carlisle school district.
“My educational philosophy aligns closely with the mission of Johnston schools—grounded in student-first thinking, meaningful relationships and a deep commitment to educational equity and empowerment,” Ingle said. “Trust and connection with students, families and staff form the foundation of a thriving school culture. I look forward to contributing to the continued growth and success of Lawson Elementary.”
In her new role, Ingle will provide onsite administrative oversight of Lawson Elementary, promoting the district’s mission and educational programs. She will develop building goals, policies, manage building finances & human resources, facilitate community relations and ensure quality instruction for all students in a safe, equitable and secure environment.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Ingle into her new role as Principal of Lawson Elementary,” Superintendent Dr. Nikki Roorda said. “Her experience in educational administration and school leadership here in Johnston, combined with her passion for fostering a collaborative school culture makes her a great fit for this role.”
Ingle received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Iowa State University, her master’s degree in education with an emphasis in higher education from Upper Iowa University and her doctorate in educational leadership and PK-12 principal licensure from Drake University. Her selection will go before the Johnston Board of Education on June 9.
