Johnston Launch Program

The Johnston Launch Program, formerly known as Johnston High School’s 4+ program, is an integrated program designed for students who receive special education services from the age of 18-21.

Students attending this program will work on living, learning and working through their Individual Education Plan (IEP). Students will learn what it is like to take care of an apartment, stay clean, do laundry, cook basic meals and more. This program is housed in the northwest wing of the District Office through Door 4. This is the former entrance to Wallace Elementary. The program is housed in the northwest wing of the District Office and has two classrooms and one apartment learning space.

Mission

Deliver personalized transition experiences that foster inclusivity by building collaborative community connections, supporting success in meaningful postsecondary education, vocation, and overall life.

Goals

Living: Enhance overall life and wellbeing through individualized skill-building opportunities and connections with community experiences and partners.

Learning: Ensure access to high quality learning opportunities by addressing educational gaps, setting personalized goals, providing tailored instruction and support, and connecting with community partners.

Working: Build vocational readiness by focusing on individualized skill development, goal setting, and fostering community connections to ensure students are prepared for meaningful and successful employment.

Eligibility

Eligibility for services is determined based on whether the student has acquired the skills needed to meet their postsecondary expectations and IEP goals, enabling a successful transition into post-secondary life. This includes evaluating whether the student can make progress toward or meet goals related to their postsecondary expectations as outlined in their IEP. These services are provided when determined to be needed by the IEP team and for as long as necessary, as long as the student remains eligible for special education services. If JCSD 4+ services cannot meet the student’s needs within the district, the IEP team will work to find an alternate option for services, as long as the need persists. Students outside of the JCSD boundaries will be considered for acceptance on an individual basis for enrollment.
