Johnston Therapeutic Program

The JTP (Johnston Therapeutic Program) is a K-8 specialized program which is‬ part of the continuum of Multi Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) services available to our students based on their‬ Social, emotional, behavioral and/or mental health (SEBMH) needs.

JTP consists of classrooms that are supported with a‬ trauma-informed approach. JTP classrooms provide each student with‬ the therapeutic support needed to gain knowledge and skills necessary for‬ academic and social emotional success through an individualized student support plan that  addresses the student’s social, emotional, behavioral, and/or‬ mental health needs.

The newly remodeled space can accommodate four classrooms with a maximum of six students in each classroom to support individual needs. Each classroom has a teacher and an associate, along with a behavior interventionist and mental health specialist. A sensory room is also available, giving students a safe space to take a break and reset during the school day.

Objectives and Outcomes‬

  1. To return JTP students to their regular school program as soon as educationally and therapeutically possible AND to be time-limited and geared to support students in successfully returning to their educational environment, with or without support.
  2. To serve students whose emotional, social, or behavioral needs interfere with the ability to be successful in the current educational environment, with or without support, including students who have co-occurring poor academic work habits or need academic support. This is due to social-emotional behaviors that significantly interfere with learning.
  3. Offer family and mental health support for students and families.

Goals and Supports

    2. Grade level expectations, feedback, individualized curriculum, instruction, and assessment
    3. Opportunities to increase independence
