  • BAND MEMBERS: Good luck to all of the 6th grade band members who are performing at solo festival tonight!
  • FROM THE SUMMIT LIBRARY: Featured Book of the Week:

The New Kid by Jerry Craft just won the Newbery Medal last week!  The New Kid is the first Graphic Novel to win this award.  This book is about Jordan who starts a new private middle school (which is made up of mostly white students) after attending a public school for elementary (which was made up of mostly African American students).  This is quite an adjustment for Jordan as he learns to navigate two different worlds.  The text is important in this graphic novel, but you also must pay attention to the graphics in order to truly comprehend what Jordan is going through.  HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
