  • SAS GIRLS’ BASKETBALL: SAS girls’ basketball players should wear the following color shirts for Thursday’s game:

  • MILITARY CARE PACKAGES : We are organizing care packages for military members at Camp Dodge as part of our ELP project to affect change for the greater good in our community.  We are collecting the following food items in boxes in the Lobby Vestibule in front of the office until Friday January 17, 2020.
  • hard candy
  • gummy candy
  • suckers
  • water flavoring packets (kool aid, coffee, hot chocolate, and lemonade)
  • beef jerky
  • Slim Jim’s
  • protein or snack bars
  • labeled homemade treats
  • microwave popcorn
  • gum

Military personnel also appreciate these additional items:

  • decks of cards
  • card games
  • good quality socks
  • chapstick
  • pens
  • notebooks
  • board games
  • movies
  • puzzle books
  • word cross books. 

These packages will be organized and sent out this winter through the USO at Camp Dodge. By just getting one extra when you’re Christmas shopping, Iowa’s military can have their own treats! You can turn in these items at boxes in the lobby vestibule in front of the school office.

  • NATIONAL HISTORY DAY: National History Day competitions are gearing up for this year, and anyone interested in researching a topic from history to present at competitions is invited to attend our first NHD practice on Monday, January 6 from 2:50 -4:15 pm in Expedition #137, Ms. Ites’ room.
    This year’s theme is Breaking Barriers in History, where students choose a topic at least 20 years old and explore how that topic would examine the concept ofbreaking barriers.  Students may participate individually or in groups of 2-5 total students to complete 1 entry.  Presentation entry category choices are to create an exhibit, a documentary, a website, a performance, or write a *historical paper (*historical paper is an individual-only entry category).  For further details about this event, please see the NHD website at https://www.nhd.org/breaking-barriers-history.
    District competition for NHD will be March 28, State competition is on April 27, and the National Competition is in College Park, MD June 14-18.

  • LOST AND FOUND: The Lost & Found will be donated during the break.  Please be sure to check for any items you might be missing and take them before Friday.  This includes lunch boxes.
  • LEGO LEAGUE RESULTS: Summit 6th graders (Akul Gonchigar and James Armitage) and 7th graders ( Amogh Jithendra and Abhishek Nalam) took part at the regional First LEGO League:(FLL) competitions on Sunday, December 15th conducted at Summit Middle School. They won The Robotic Design Award and also advanced to State held  at ISU on January 19, 2020.
