Attention Johnston Women’s Golfers.  Please fill out the following form to communicate your intentions for JHS Spring Women’s Golf 2021 (students must fill out the form).  JHS Spring Women’s Golf is for current 9th-12th graders.  However, if numbers allow, current 7th- 8th graders may be allowed to join the team for practices and to gain experience.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Coach Hattel at chattel@johnston.k12.ia.us.

Game group over lunch in the Counseling Office will be FRIDAY this week and NOT Thursday.  Thank you!

Congratulations to our JHS Boys Golf Team, who qualified for the State Tournament at Des Moines Golf and Country Club.  The Dragons entered the tournament after winning their District Meet on Monday, October 5.  They entered state with a 60-5 record.  The team finished 4th in the state shooting a two day, 36 hole, total of 635.  Individual placements include:

-Jarred Bowser, 12th Grade, 5th place out of 83 -Owen Howe, 9th Grade, T16 place out of 83 -Nathan Freidhoff, 10th Grade, T25 place out of 83 -Logan Fritz, 12th grade, T32 place out of 83 – Calen Bishop, 11th grade, T40 place out of 83

Any girl in grades 9-12 that are planning to play basketball at JHS this season, need to attend the pre-season sign up meeting on Sunday, October 18th at 7:30 pm in the JHS Commons. Please bring your school iPad or your phone, we are not allowing parents in at this time so please make sure to have your parents contact information with you.

There’s still time to enter the yearbook cover contest! Students are invited to submit original artwork to a contest to choose the cover for this year’s JMS Yearbook. The yearbook theme for the 2020-2021 book is Welcome to the New Normal. The contest winner’s work will appear on the front cover and wrap around on the back cover, so size/proportion accordingly. Entries are due to Ms. Kehrli (Room 516) by Friday, October 16 and will be judged based on creative interpretation of the theme and originality. Use any 2-dimensional media (photography, drawing, painting, collage, digital art, etc.). Entries not selected for the cover may be included inside the book to showcase student creativity. Questions? Attention all military families!!  In preparation for our Veteran’s Day celebration this year we would like to celebrate any and all of our families that have dedicated themselves to serving our country or supported a family member who has.  We are looking to put together a slideshow of students and their loved ones who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces.  If you would be willing to be included in our celebration slide show, please email a copy of any photos you’re willing to share to raine.mollenbeck@johnston.k12.ia.us or abbey.moomaw@johnston.k12.ia.us

Students! Lanyards for your ID card are now available for purchase!! They are available in the Front Office for $1.00!

ON-LINE STUDENT PICTURE DAYS: On-line learners will take their school pictures during our JMS Picture Re-Take Days – October 23 (GOLD Re-Take Day) and October 26 (PURPLE Re-Take Day). On-line students can come to the school (use Door #18) for their photos anytime between 11:00 AM-1:00 PM.

SIGN UP FOR 7th/8th WRESTLING!

Any 8th grader wishing to wrestle this year, should sign up at the link below this message.  It’s important to have an updated physical (see expiration dates on link), and to fill out all the information at the sign up link.  We are looking forward to an exciting season, and we welcome all 8th graders, new to the sport and experienced to join the team!  If any JMS students or parents have questions, they can reach out to head middle school coach Joe Huebbe or the head high school coach Aaron Tecklenburg..  Our email contacts are below, along with the sign up link.  The season is set to begin on Monday October 19th and be completed my mid December.  GO DRAGONS!
