Yearbook Staffers! We will meet on Monday, October 21 at 2:51 in Ms. Kehrli’s room (516). Newbies always welcome!

 

Reminding all artists! You are invited to submit original artwork to a contest to choose the cover for this year’s JMS Yearbook. The yearbook theme is 2020 Vision. The contest winner’s work will appear on the front cover and wrap around on the back cover, so size accordingly. Entries are due by October 31 and will be judged based on creative interpretation of the theme, originality, and expression of JMS spirit and pride. Use any 2-dimensional media (drawing, painting, collage, etc.). Entries not selected for the cover may be included inside the book to showcase student creativity. Questions? Ask Ms. Kehrli, Mr. Kirkholm, or Ms. James.

 


Johnston Middle School had several 8th and 9th graders selected for the 32nd annual Opus Honor Choir Festival. Over 2,600 students were nominated by their directors for the 720 positions in the four Opus Honor Choirs. Selections were made by means of a recorded audition. The 2019 Opus Honor Choir will perform at 4:00pm November 21st in CY Stephens Auditorium in the Iowa State Center in Ames. If you see any of the following students please be sure to Congratulate them!!

8th Grade:

9th Grade:

Cameron Capalbo, Soren Green, Noah Hartman, Renee Johnson, Emma Lemke, Emily Marshall, Allison Miner, Maggie Miner, Taevian Pope, Kenna Riddle Molly Rogers, Nathan Ruisch. Taevian Pope was also selected as a soloist finalist.

9th grade students: Are you new to Mock Trial at the High School level? Informational meetings for grades 9-12 Mock Trial will be held on Monday, October 28th from 3:00-3:30 PM in room 412, Ms. McConnell’s room, at JMS OR Thursday, October 31st at 7:00 PM in room 412, Ms. McConnell’s room. Each meeting will last approximately 30 minutes.

Attending a Mock Trial meeting is required for any student who HAS NOT participated in High School Mock Trial. These are for both students and parents when possible. If you are unable to attend either one of the meetings, you must contact Ms. McConnell (molly.mcconnell@johnston.k12.ia.us) to discuss your participation by November 1.


The JHS Fishing Club will be welcoming all interested 8th and 9th grade students and guardian(s)/parent(s) on Monday, October 21st at 7:00 pm at the JHS Commons (Cafeteria) area. Any students interested in fishing and fishing competitively are welcome to join. No experience necessary! Please bring your guardian(s)/parent(s) as we will have important information for them. Thank you! We look forward to seeing and meeting our new anglers!


It’s that time of year again…bowling season! If contact sports aren’t in your wheelhouse, you need a change of pace from other sports, or want a relaxing atmosphere to hang out with like-minded people, bowling is for you! The JHS/DCG bowling team is starting up very soon! We will have an informational meeting at JHS next Monday, October 21st, at 4:30pm (Enter through the Activities Door and turn right towards the main office).

Tryouts will be held Nov. 11th and 12th for boys, Nov. 13th and 14th for girls. No experience or equipment necessary! All tryouts and practices will be held at Warrior Lanes (190 SE Laurel Street Waukee, IA 50263).
