JMS Announcements – 1/14/19

Monday, January 14th, 2019–A Day

New Announcements:

Are you interested in being a writer, designer, photographer, or section editor for the 2018-2019 JMS Yearbook? If so, please come to Ms. Kehrli’s room (516) on Wednesday, January 23, at 3:00 for a kick-off meeting (there is no early out that day). Journalism classes have contributed stories and photos we can use for the yearbook, but there’s still more to do. Moving forward after our meeting on the 23rd, we will meet on Mondays after school to make assignments and critique pages-in-progress. We’ll also talk scheduling and plan for times when people can cover events and continue production work until the book is complete. Bring your energy and creativity on Wednesday, January 23, and join us!

Apply for ELP!

High School ELP Information:

Students in or entering high school can apply to be reviewed for the Extended Learning Program. This program exists to ensure students have opportunities to learn and be challenged at their level. In grades 8-12, students need to take initiative to apply for this programming. As an identified ELP student, you would have access to the teacher who works with gifted and talented students to assist with high school and college planning. In addition to this, you would have the opportunity to take the ELP class which is a high ability course where students determine the type of learning they wish to pursue in a self-study classroom environment. Whether or not you are interested in the self-study class, all students interested in being identified or continuing to be identified for ELP services need to fill out an application.

All JMS students will hear about programming and be able to get an application through their language arts class. The application is also on the district website under Extended Learning Program in the Student Support and Equity tab which can be found with the following link:

https://www.johnstoncsd.org/departments/student-support-equity/extended-learning-program-elp/identification-and-services/

Please email Ms. McConnell if you have any questions regarding applying for ELP (molly.mcconnell@jdragonmail.us)

Remember Ms. Beer’s FIRE class is doing a fundraiser to help raise money for a Peer PE wheelchair bike! The bike will allow students in wheelchairs to experience riding a bike. We are selling ‘Be Kind’ t-shirts.  Shirts at $15.00. Order forms can be found in the office. Forms are due January 16th to the JMS office.

8th Grade Students that are interested in signing up for swimming! Please fill out this form: https://goo.gl/forms/9V0JztNBNXep2hnC2

This link also includes the online athletic registration page, which is https://johnstoncsd-ar.rschooltoday.com/  where families must sign and upload all required forms like the concussion form, physical, good conduct form, etc.

The yearbook staff would like for you to take time out if your busy schedule and take this quick poll! The data of the poll will go into the yearbook! Take this poll and be a part in creating YOUR yearbook.
