New Announcements:

SCHOOL PERMIT MEETING: Attention 9th Grade Students! Our next School Permit Meeting will be Thursday, January 9 at 3:15 PM in the Cafeteria of Johnston Middle School (enter through front entrance). The ONLY students eligible are 9th grade students who HAVE HAD THEIR LEARNERS’ PERMIT FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS AND HAVE COMPLETED DRIVER’S ED. THE STUDENT AND A PARENT MUST ATTEND THE MEETING! Please bring your completed Driver’s Education Certificate (if you have a paper version – if you do not have a paper version don’t worry about it) and learner’s permit to the meeting. Parking Tags will be available for $20 during the meeting. Students will need a parking tag to park on school grounds during the school year. Please make sure you have your license plate number with you at the time of purchase. If you have NOT completed Driver’s Ed by the meeting date, we will have another meeting next month. Be watching your announcements for the date and time!


There will be a Johnston Girls’ Soccer parent meeting for the upcoming season after break. The meeting will be held Tuesday, January 7th at 6:30 PM at JHS auditorium. Please try to have at least one parent or guardian attend the meeting. Players are encouraged to attend as well. If a parent is not able to come, please reach out to Coach Shafer. Plan on bringing a phone or a school issued iPad.

 


 

Repeat Announcements:

Student Council is bringing Winter Holiday Cheer to JMS! The next dress up day is Friday.

Friday, Dec 20th will be PJ Day…whoot whoot!!!


Johnston FCA will hold another Huddle on Thursday, (12/19) hosted at Reagan Thompson’s home at 8420 Sandford Place in Johnston.  The gathering will begin at 7:29 pm and will have an ugly sweater theme.  Everyone in grades 9-12 are welcome to attend! Tennis anyone?

Mark your calendar for the informational tennis meeting for girls in grades 9-12 on Thursday, January 9th at 3:20 in the Johnston Middle School LMC. Uniform orders will be handed out on this date!

Complete the Online Athletic Registration Information (You need to sign up with Ms. Hetherton AND with the district athletic office!)

** All students in grades 7-12 participating in extracurricular athletics, must complete the online athletic registration prior to the first practice of the season.  Registration includes important contact information, selecting the sports for the entire year in which the student will participate in, uploading the athletic physical, and digitally signing the concussion information sheet, medical clearance, and the Johnston Good Conduct Policy.

Physical Information – Physicals are valid for 13 months.  A copy must be uploaded prior to participation.  The copy must include the physicians signature & date, along with clearance for participation.  Any student who does not have a physical cannot participate in any practice or game. Polk County does offer free clinics weekly at various sites that will provide athletic physicals.  A list of physicals can be found at: http://www.freeclinicsofiowa.org/find-clinic/pdf-download/Polk/.

Hopefully you are all accessing the great tennis facilities in our area (Lifetime, Aspen, Drake, Ames Fitness Center). There are great, affordable teen clinics that do not require membership.
