Johnston Middle School Announcements for

Friday, September 10, 2021, A Day

Today (Friday, September 10) is an A day.

Teachers will update weekly assignments every Friday so students know what needs to be done the following week. In the weekly updates, teachers will communicate any due dates for student work.

BROTHERS TO BROTHERS — Are you looking for an opportunity to make connections and have fun with fellow male students of color?   If so, please consider joining the Brothers to Brothers (B2B) group. Our group mentoring activities are designed to foster positive connections between the school and community with the focus on building trusting relationships between adult mentors and male students of color. By cultivating these relationships and acquiring new skills the hope is for students to embrace an optimistic sense of self and academic success while building healthy relationships with peers, educational staff and members of our community.

Paper applications can be picked up in the front office and are due back to the front office by September 17th.

D & D CLUB — Dungeons and Dragons Club is designed to give students a chance to play the long lived, pencil and paper roleplaying game with all materials provided. Players of any ability level are welcome. New games may also be added to the club based on interest.

If you are interested in participating, a meeting of interest will be held on Thursday, September 16th from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Location is to be determined, please check the announcements next week. If you have any questions you can talk with Mr. Hewitt (room 113) or email him at

SISTERS FOR SUCCESS — Are you looking for an opportunity to make connections and have fun with fellow female students of color?   If so, please consider joining the Sisters for Success (S4S) group. We’ll meet twice a month alternating class periods in the morning & afternoon. Our first meeting will be Thursday, September 23 during 7th period in the auditorium. Remember, this is during a regular class period. If you miss something, it is your responsibility to make it up! 😊  Paper applications can be picked up in the counseling office and are due back by September 17th to Mrs. Andrews or Mrs. Totten.  Any questions or concerns can be directed to Mrs. Totten in the counseling department.

9th grade students who wish to obtain a school driver’s permit can follow the following link:

This link will guide them to a Google Site. Students will need to log in with their jdragonmail credentials in order to watch a video and complete a quiz. The video contains the information that was presented at permit meetings in the past and will now take the place of those meetings. One parent will need to watch the video and note that completion on the quiz. As usual, the only students eligible are 9th graders who have completed driver’s education and have had their learner’s permit for at least six months. After the quiz has been completed, students can pick up their signed Department of Transportation form in the JMS Front Office. Students will need a parking tag to park on school grounds during the school year. Parking tags are available for $20 when students pick up their DOT form. Please make sure you have your license plate number with you at the time of purchase.
