SISTERS 4 SUCCESS: We are looking for 8th and 9th grade female students of color to participate in a leadership group entitled “Sisters 4 Success (S4S).” Our next meeting is Thursday, September 29th during 8th hour in the auditorium. The purpose of the group is to establish a system of support to help develop personal, social and academic skills of minority female students in the Johnston Public Schools. Each participating member will be expected to play an active role in setting up chapter expectations, goals, and objectives for their S4S chapter. These goals and objectives will be centered on the following initiatives:
– Academic Development – Financial Awareness
– Community Connections – Social Development
– Personal Development – Human Relations
DIG PINK/SPIKE BLUE: Now that Homecoming Week is over, it’s time to look ahead. The week of Oct. 10 we are doing a combined cancer awareness week with volleyball, cheerleading and football. Our focus will be on stage IV breast cancer through the Side-Out Foundation and colon cancer through the American Cancer Society. On Tuesday, Oct. 11 we will be hosting SE Polk for our senior night and our annual Dig Pink/Spike Blue match. On Friday, Oct. 14, the cheerleaders have identified as a pink out night at your senior night football vs. CR Kennedy. As a way to come together as a community and also raise funds for these causes, we are selling t-shirts to be worn to both the volleyball match on Tuesday and the football game on Friday. There are 3 choices, so we hope you can find one you can choose. Here is the link to place an order: https://johnstonpinkout2022.itemorder.com/shop/home/
This order will need to be placed by midnight this Thursday, Sept. 29 in order to get the shirts back in time. The video contains the information that was presented at permit meetings in the past and will now take the place of those meetings. One parent will need to watch the video and note that completion on the quiz. As usual, the only students eligible are 9th graders who have completed driver’s education and have had their learner’s permit for at least six months. After the quiz has been completed, students can pick up their signed Department of Transportation form in the JMS Front Office.
