Come join the MATHCOUNTS CLUB!!!
More than a quarter million students participate in MATHCOUNTS programs or use their resources each year. At Summit, students meet to solve problems and build problem solving skills. They will meet after school every-other week, on Mondays, starting the first week of October in Ms. Lewis’s room in Team Mission. Our first meeting is Oct. 2.
In January, students will begin meeting every week on Monday’s after school to get ready for 4 levels of competition. This is open to any student who enjoys problem solving with others in a competitive environment. Our school competition will be in January, a local competition in February, state in March and then the National Competition.
The coaches are Mr. Steve Skinner and Ms. Linda Lewis. Anyone is welcome to join and there are links on the Activities and Clubs Moodle page under MATHCOUNTS.
Garden Club will meet Thursdays at 2:45 in Room 129 in Mission. All students are welcome from both 6th and 7th grade! Our meeting will end promptly at 3:30. Students need to be able to walk home or be picked up; bus transportation is not available. We will be out in the garden harvesting produce that we donate to the Johnston Partnership; we have donated over 500 pounds this gardening season already!
We have a Facebook page and we would love for you to follow along on our journey! You can access it here: Summit Middle School Garden Club Facebook Page.
FROM THE SUMMIT LIBRARY
The Dragon Dispatch
Click here to read our first edition of The Dragon Dispatch for the school year! The 7th grade Media Literacy students were in charge of writing this month’s student newspaper.
All entries in the September Library Contest are due next Friday, Sept. 29th. How many books do you think we have in the Summit Library?? Record your guess here!
Protect your Books!
Swimming will be starting soon in PE classes. Please be sure to place library books far away from wet swimsuits and towels. This is the number one reason students have to pay to replace library books. Wet books = Mold! Yuck!
Featured Book of the Week
The Last Cuentista won the Newbery award for literature in 2022, and I loved it! It takes place in the future and people are leaving Earth to go live on a distant planet far, far away. Petra’s family is onboard one of the ships. But something goes terribly wrong, and she has to try to find the rest of her family and survive the evil Collective who have taken over the ship.
