School Board Election Information
This year, school election day is Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Regular school board elections are held in odd-numbered years in each Iowa school district on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. The Johnston Board of Education has three open seats.
Important Dates
Monday, Aug. 25: First day to file nomination papers with the board secretary. Contact Board Secretary Lynn Meadows by phone (515)-254-3394 or email for paperwork.
Thursday, Sept. 18: Last day to file nomination papers with the board secretary. Deadline is 5 p.m. Papers must be delivered in person to the District Office at 6510 NW 62nd Ave, Johnston.
Friday, Sept. 19: Board secretaries deliver nomination papers to controlling commissioner. Deadline is noon.
Tuesday, Sept. 23: Last day candidates may withdraw. Last day written objections to nomination papers or eligibility of candidates may be filed. Deadline is 5 p.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 4: School election day. Polls are open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
Monday, Nov. 10 or Wednesday, Nov. 12: Tier 1 canvass of votes; first Monday or Wednesday after the election, unless these dates fall on a legal holiday, then it pushes back one day. This is the election canvass for school districts located within one county.
Monday, Nov. 24, 6 p.m.: Johnston Board of Education Organizational Meeting. This is the board’s first regular or special meeting following the final canvass. During the meeting, the board organizes for the new term.

- United Staes Citizen
- 18 years of age or older
- Resident of school district
- Eligible to register to vote
